If you are looking for a nice place to sip a cup of fines specialty coffee in Munich: check out Standl 20. Since 2015 this café is located on the Elisabethmarkt in Munich’s district Schwabing-West. The Owners behind it are Johannes Bayer and Paul von Tettenborn – two friends with a penchant for good coffee.
Johannes already set up his own coffee roastery seven years ago. It’s called „JB Kaffee“ and delivers beans to various cafes in Munich. But also nationwide Johannes has supporter. Readers from Hamburg may be already familiar with it because of Balz und Balz in the district Hoheluft. In Johannes own café, of course, JB coffee is also used – on a large counter, the coffee is prepared here for the customers. It can also be bought for home.
At Standl 20 there is a large selection of possibilities for the coffee preparation: You can order a filter coffee, for example, pour in the V60 filter, pressed through the Aeropress or brewed in a French Press. And even the machine for the espresso in the cafe is is something rare – a hand lever machine.
Between a bakery, a flower shop and some vegetable market shops you can not only drink good coffee and talk about it (or as the Bavarians like to say „ratschen“), you can eat some delicious baked things. There is a small but fine cake selection, to be exact, and a few breakfast options such as cinnamon rolls or porridge (see third-last picture) on the menu.
In summer you can make yourself comfortable in the sun before the cafe. Here are benches and sun loungers, from which you can wonderful watch the market activity at the surrounding small houses. If that doesn’t sound like a good place for the next coffee!
