Grab your favourite blanket, get comfortable on the couch and pour yourself a tea! Once again I would like to take you back to Amsterdam and it just happens that I found the place for a perfect cosy day. On my last trip I went to a neighbourhood in Amsterdam Oost where I had never been before. To the Czaar Peterstraat. The reason for my visit was the coffee place Het Wilde Brood and KAAS NOOT BIET, which opened its doors at the end of august in this peaceful street.
As the name Het Wilde Brood already suggests, the place is a bakery. Though not just an ordinary but a very special one, since everything is still baked from scratch. The bread and all the other delicacies, that are prepared with much love in the basement of the café, can be enjoyed in a very cosy room upstairs. On the menu you have several options – from sweet treats to different lunch menus. I had a plate full of little vegetarian delights such as cheese and salad, and with it, of course, came several slices of the unbelievably good bread! In addition, they serve delicious coffee from the Amsterdam roaster Stooker. Moreover, there is a shop area where they sell handpicked kitchen items. You can sense right away that it is run by a food stylist whose passion you find when looking at your plate.
I was especially impressed by (besides the incredible food!) the two power women running this project. The guests in this spot were also slightly different, when comparing them to other hip coffee places in Amsterdam. Next to me, for instance, were two older very friendly Dutch women having their afternoon tea.
So, in case you are looking for a place to slow down for a little while and enjoy delicious and nice things, then this is the place to be!
Het Wilde Brood & KAAS NOOT BIET
By the way, in the same street you’ll find many more sweet cafés and stores. For fashion enthusiasts there is the store Dreamboat, cheese fans can find their hearts‘ desire (after they already got seduced at Het Wilde Brood and KAAS NOTT BIET) at the Fromagerie Abraham Kef. And Coffee & Friends (what a lovely name) also seems to be worth exploring. Last but not least, I was baffled to stumble over a store that sells only peanut butter! It is called De Pindakaaswinkel and it is the first and only one in the Netherlands (the owner even claims that it is the first in Europe).
In the matter of design and art I would like to recommend a store to you, which I made a photograph of above on the right. Unfortunately, I was not able to figure out the name until now. If you ever pass by there and discover it I would be happy if you would write it in the comments!
My last tip is for dinner – the sustainable restaurant Instock. Every morning, the Instock-operators collect food from an Amsterdam supermarket chain, which cannot be sold anymore, mostly because of their appearance. Those ingredients are used to conjure night-by-night surprise menus – what a wonderful idea!
Wunderschöne Bilder von einer wunderschönen Stadt!
Noch besser hat mir in Holland Rotterdam mit seiner großen Vielfalt an Architektur gefallen. 🙂
