I’ve spent the last couple of days in Berlin – taking a break from my daily routine in order to do what I love most: taking pictures and discovering new places. I came back feeling inspired by the creative capital and have several new recommendations for you in tow. Three of them are located in the district Kreuzberg, which is where I am taking you today.
Let’s start with Café Fenster in the Falckensteinstrasse. It was just opened here, in Wrangelkiez, last year by no other than the chief roaster from Bonanza (see my following recommendation). The name Café Fenster is characteristic in this case because of its big windows facing the street. During the summer this allows not only a bright light inside, but also – when opening the windows – a few possibilities for guests to sit outside. I especially want to recommend (next to the terrific coffee!) the sandwiches. They are available in different variations and prepared with lots of love from the Irish cook.
Attention: In the summer of 2017 Café Fenster moved to Mulackstrasse 32 in Berlin Mitte.

A lovely little walk away from Café Fenster through Kreuzberg, you’ll find my second recommendation: the Bonanza Roastery. It is one of the most significant institutions in Berlin when we talk about coffee. Since 2016 you can get a better insight to what’s happening behind the scene: From the light-flooded front area of the café you are able to observe the action of the roastery through a big glass wall. Add a Flat White with regional milk from Brandenburg and everything is perfect!

Last but not least I went to Café Nano. A few weeks ago a good friend of mine told me about it and gushed about the beautiful interior design. Enough reason for me to celebrate the end of my coffee tour there! In this minimalistically furnished coffee place, you’re not only able to drink excellent coffee (and enjoy self made delicacies) but also to get advice about different equipment for making your own good coffee at home. Moreover, next to many utensils, you can buy coffee from different roasting plants. To my own joy, with Playground coffee, a Hamburg roastery is represented too.

Exploring Kreuzberg not only brought me lots of energy, but also pleasant conversations and new discoveries. A second blog post about my short Berlin trip will follow. In it, I will share some recommendations for Mitte, yet another district.
